How do digital video downloads differ from physical video discs I purchase?

Digital video downloads purchased from us are video files that you download and save to your computer hard drive or mobile device. You may watch these saved video files on virtually any Windows or Mac computer and many mobile devices (see below for system requirements). Just like physical DVD and Blu-ray video discs you purchase, you own the copy of the video and may view it as often and for as long as you'd like. But as with any copyrighted film or video, you are forbidden by international law from distributing, uploading, sharing or broadcasting the downloaded video file. Your copy of the downloaded video file is for your personal viewing only.

What format are your digital video download products offered?

All our downloadable video products are delivered in Quicktime MOV format, the same widely-adopted file fornat used for movies and videos delivered via the iTunes Store to millions of computers and mobile devices.

What are the system requirements for playback on my computer?

  • Apple Quicktime 7 or later
  • iTunes 9 or later (Optional: only needed for syncing videos to Apple iOS devices)
  • Macintosh:
    • Mac OS X 10.4.9 or later
    • 1.83 Ghz Intel Core Duo or faster
    • At least 256MB of RAM
  • Windows
    • Windows XP (SP2) or later
    • 2.8 Ghz Pentium 4 or faster
    • At least 512MB or RAM

Can I play my downloaded videos on my video-capable mobile device?

Apple iOS Devices: Our videos are playable on iPhone 4, iPad, as well as newer iPod Touch models. However, you must first download the file to your computer and use iTunes software to sync the video file to your iOS device. It is not possible to purchase and download the video directly to your mobile device.

Other video-capable mobile devices: Yes, on some devices. Our downloadable video products should be playable on any device which can support playback of H.264 MPEG-4 (.M4V) format video up to 1280x720 resolution at 30fps. Refer to your mobile device documentation for specific playback support.

Can I purchase and download the video directly with my iPhone/iPad or other mobile device?

Since the iPhone/iPad do now allow you to save videos files downloaded from the web, we strongly recommend that customers purchase and download the video using their desktop computers and then use iTunes to sync the downloaded video file onto their mobile device.

How large are your video files?

Depending on the length of the video or segment, file sizes can range from 600mb up to close to 2 gigabytes. Total file sizes are listed on the product information page. 1,000mb = Approx 1 gigabyte. The amount of time it will take for the file to download varies widely from one computer to another and depends on the speed of your computer's internet connection.

Why can't I play the video while it's downloading?

Our video files are not intended for streaming. Please wait for the entire file to download before playing it.

Are high-definition (HD) versions available for all titles?

Not all titles are available in high-definition. Look for the HD logo next to the BUY DOWNLOAD button for titles available in high-definition.

Are your high-definition (HD) downloads just as good as a Blu-ray disc?

Almost. While our HD downloads are more convenient to purchase and download they do not feature the same full HD resolution offered on our Blu-ray disc counterpart. Our high-definition (HD) digital downloads are presented in 1280x720 resolution while our Blu-rays are featured at the higher 1920x1080 resolution at a significantly higher data rate only possible on a physical Blu-ray disc. While our digital downloads offer convenience along with lower cost, our Blu-ray discs offer the ultimate viewing experience without any compromises in resolution or picture quality.

Can I add physical discs as well as digital download products to the same shopping cart?

Unfortunately, no. Digital downloads and physical discs each use their own separate shopping cart and will have to be paid for separately.
